Farm Vlog – The Great Rabbit Roundup in a Heatwave

It was 95°F (35°C) in the shade today, which meant one thing: survival mode. We kept outdoor activities to a minimum, made sure every animal had shade and fresh water, and checked on the rabbits constantly to prevent heat stroke. But just when we thought the day would be slow and sweaty, Smeagol—our solid blue rex rabbit—had other plans.

She escaped.

What followed was a surprise round of rabbit rodeo featuring my dad, our Great Pyrenees Tequila, and a very slippery rabbit. Dad tried to catch her. Smeagol squirmed. Chaos. And then, in an incredible twist, Tequila calmly herded her back to Rowan all on her own.

Everyone's safe, hydrated, and back where they belong—but let’s just say it wasn’t exactly the chill day we were hoping for.

If you’ve ever had an escape-artist animal or a farm dog who goes above and beyond, this one’s for you.

Farm Vlog – Farrier Day, Hot Weather Struggles, and Securing Silverado the Rabbit

Welcome back to Andersen Acres! Today’s farm vlog is all about managing the homestead during extreme heat. When the temperatures soar, sometimes you just have to do the bare minimum—and that’s exactly what we did. We stayed out of the sun, kept cool indoors as much as possible, and focused on the essentials.

One of the big wins today was reinforcing the bottom of our Rex rabbit Silverado’s pen with wire. No more escape attempts—he’s officially grounded! We also had our farrier out this morning to trim the hooves of Shadowfax (our white mini horse) and Arwen (our spotted goat). Regular hoof care is vital for the health of horses, goats, and other hoofed animals, and now they’re looking—and feeling—fantastic.

Whether you're into hobby farming, raising animals, or just enjoy watching the ups and downs of life on a small farm, this vlog has something for you. Come along for a realistic, relatable look at homesteading when the weather won’t cooperate.

Farm Vlog – Rabbit Escape, Kitten Goes Home, and Mosquito Mayhem!

Welcome back to Andersen Acres! Today’s farm vlog is a whirlwind of heat, chaos, and cute animals. Our lynx Rex rabbit, Silverado, decided to break free from his pen late last night—and of course, that meant an early-morning rabbit roundup. Tequila, our amazing livestock guardian dog, helped herd him into the garden shed, and Rowan managed to catch him safely. He’s totally fine—just gave us a bit of a heart attack!

We also said goodbye to Renee, our dilute calico barn kitten and the last from Jake’s litter. She went to her forever home today! We still have four adorable kittens left, but they’re not quite old enough to go home yet.

With no rain in sight and scorching temperatures, we spent most of the day watering the garden just to keep everything alive. And to top it all off? The barn is absolutely swarming with mosquitoes. That’s my next battle.

This is real life on a working hobby farm—animals, gardens, weather, and all the unpredictability in between.

Farm Vlog – A Rabbit Rescue and a Mystery Duck?!

Welcome back to Andersen Acres! Today’s vlog might seem quiet on camera, but behind the scenes it was anything but boring. While carrying our eight fluffy livestock guardian puppies out to their pen, Tequila—our heroic Great Pyrenees—suddenly charged into the bush. Moments later, she emerged with one of our escaped brown rex rabbits crouched between her front legs, gently nudging her to safety. A raccoon had been attacking her, and thanks to Tequila’s quick action, Stump is banged up but safe.

Then there’s the duck math. We started with six ducks, added three juveniles and one baby, sold the three juveniles… and somehow, we still have eight ducks. And the extra one? A full-grown Cayuga. Where it came from, we don’t know. No one around here even has Cayugas. So we’ve got ourselves a feathered mystery on our hands!

This video is part of our daily hobby farm life here on Andersen Acres. Even when the footage is calm, the stories behind it are wild. Whether you're into livestock guardian dogs, backyard poultry, or just love a good farm mystery, you’ll find something here.

Farm Vlog – Breeding Rabbits, Candling Quail Eggs, and Making Butter in the Heat

Welcome back to Andersen Acres! In today’s hobby farm vlog, we’re battling the summer heat while getting a whole lot done around the homestead. From checking on the animals to breeding our rabbits and candling quail eggs, it’s been a busy day — even if there wasn’t much to film! You’ll see us breed two Rex rabbits and one Holland Lop in hopes of baby bunnies in about a month, plus we’re keeping an eye on our pregnant Lop, Libra. We also candled our latest batch of quail eggs, but since they got wet before incubation, development isn’t looking great.

On the kitchen side of things, it was time to make more homemade butter — we go through a ton of it here between baking and cooking for the farm family. Everyone’s doing well: Shadowfax, Arwen, Blue the turkey, the ducks, the chickens — just hiding out in the shade like the rest of us trying to survive the heatwave.

If you love real farm life, raising animals, homesteading, and the everyday hustle of a hobby farm, don’t miss this one!

Farm Vlog – Socializing Livestock Guardian Puppies With Ducks, Chickens, and Rabbits

Welcome back to Andersen Acres! In today’s farm vlog, we’re giving our Great Pyrenees puppies an important lesson—how to gently interact with the other animals on the farm. Socialization is key when raising livestock guardian dogs, so we introduced them to some of our Cayuga ducks, our curious chickens, and even Falcon, our big, bold castor Rex rabbit.

You’ll see how we supervise each introduction to ensure everyone stays safe and calm, especially when little paws meet soft feathers or long bunny ears! These supervised sessions help prepare the puppies for future homes where they’ll be trusted protectors of livestock.

We also talk rabbit care in hot weather—when temperatures soar, rabbits can easily overheat. So we pulled Flegal, our blue Rex rabbit, out of the shed and moved her into the shade to stay cool and comfy. Heat stroke in rabbits is no joke!

Whether you’re raising livestock guardian dogs, homesteading with rabbits, or just love cute animal interactions, today’s vlog is full of helpful tips and wholesome moments.

Farm Vlog – Injured My Back Sneezing?! But the Great Pyrenees Puppies Are Here to Help

Welcome back to Andersen Acres! Today’s farm vlog didn’t go exactly as planned. I injured my back this morning — believe it or not, from sneezing! Turns out, farm life doesn’t pause for pulled muscles. I couldn’t film my usual chore routine because I couldn't hold the camera, but I still had to take care of all the animals — goats, chickens, ducks, rabbits, and more.

Thankfully, I got some footage later in the evening while sitting with the real stars of the day — our adorable Great Pyrenees puppies! These livestock guardian dogs are growing fast, learning their roles, and being absolute cuddle bugs while I recovered a bit in the barn.

If you love hobby farming, homesteading, or just watching sweet animals on a real working farm, this video is for you. Even on the tough days, life on a farm is full of heart (and fur).

Farm Vlog – Saying Goodbye to Two Sweet Kittens

Welcome back to Andersen Acres! In today’s farm vlog, we’re sharing a quiet day on the homestead. The baby chicks are growing strong, the baby bunnies are healthy and thriving, and overall, it’s a calm day on the farm. But we did say goodbye to two of our sweet kittens today — our little calico and one of our grey and white fluffballs have gone to their forever homes. It’s always bittersweet when animals leave the farm, even when it’s for something good.

The ladies who adopted them are absolutely wonderful, and we know these kittens are going to have amazing lives full of love. Still, we’re going to miss them. They were part of the daily rhythm here at Andersen Acres, and they’ve left tiny paw prints on our hearts.

If you love hobby farming, raising animals, or just enjoy the peaceful moments of farm life, you’ll feel right at home here. Subscribe for daily farm vlogs, animal updates, and life on a small homestead.

Farm Vlog – Permit Tests and Pyrenees Puppies (A Short But Sweet Day)

Welcome back to Andersen Acres! Today’s farm vlog is short and sweet because—real life—we weren’t home for most of it. I had to take my youngest into town for his learner’s permit knowledge test, which meant a long day of driving instead of farming. But once we got home, I made the most of my time doing what I love: cuddling animals.

Join me for a peaceful afternoon on the farm as I spend time with our Great Pyrenees puppies, playful barn kittens, and adorable baby Rex rabbits. You’ll also hear a quick update on a couple of our kittens who are heading to their new homes this weekend to begin their lives as working barn cats. They’ve been raised around goats, ducks, chickens, rabbits, and mini horses—perfect for farm life!

If you enjoy homesteading, raising animals, or just watching a slice of life from a real hobby farm, this video is for you. Even slow days have charm on the farm.

Farm Vlog – The Most Unproductive Day on the Farm (But So Many Baby Animals!)

Welcome back to Andersen Acres! In today’s farm vlog, I got absolutely nothing done—and I’m not even sorry about it. This hobby farm day was filled with snuggles instead of chores: cuddling kittens, bonding with Tequila’s Great Pyrenees puppies, carrying baby bunnies, and hanging out with our ever-curious baby chicks. If you’re here for a productive homesteading update… this isn’t it. But if you love baby animals, cozy moments, and honest behind-the-scenes glimpses at hobby farm life, this video is for you!

Even when we’re not checking things off the to-do list, life on a small farm is full of joy, chaos, and irresistible fluffballs. So come along for a very lazy day at Andersen Acres where the only thing we raised was our serotonin levels.

Farm Vlog – Saying Goodbye to a Kitten, Curious Crashes, and Puppy Playtime

Welcome back to Andersen Acres! Today’s hobby farm vlog is packed with animal antics, heartwarming moments, and a few surprises. First up, our sweet dilute tortoiseshell kitten, Peaches, went to her forever home. This was an emotional goodbye, especially since Peaches was the one I thought I might keep. But she’s going to a fantastic, loving home—and that’s what matters most.

Meanwhile, Tequila’s Great Pyrenees puppies are thriving! These eight fluffy livestock guardian dog pups are soaking up the sunshine during the day and snuggling in at night. Watching them romp and play in the grass is pure joy.

Of course, no day on the farm would be complete without some chaos—Shadowfax, our mischievous white mini-horse, caused quite the commotion in the barn. We’re still not sure what he knocked over, but it was loud, dramatic, and very much on brand for him.

And in our rabbitry, we’re making a compassionate trade with a fellow rex breeder. I’ll be caring for a special-needs baby rex missing a leg, while she raises one of our healthy black kits—ensuring both bunnies get the care they need.

Thanks for joining us on another day at the farm!

Farm Vlog – Exhausting Day on the Farm and a New Puppy Playpen for Our Great Pyrenees

Welcome back to Andersen Acres! Some days on the homestead are just a lot—and today was one of those days. Cold, cloudy, and full of little projects that added up to big-time exhaustion. This shorter-than-usual farm vlog gives you a peek into one of our more chaotic days on the hobby farm.

While we didn’t film everything, the main project we did tackle was building a brand-new outdoor pen for Tequila’s Great Pyrenees puppies! These future livestock guardian dogs now have a safe space to explore the outdoors during the day. We placed the pen right outside the house for easy supervision, and mama Tequila can hop in and out to check on them whenever she wants.

We also check in quickly on the bunnies, our garden, and the new litter of barn kittens—because even on exhausting days, life on the farm keeps moving.

Whether you're raising animals, dreaming of homesteading, or just love adorable puppies, this vlog offers a slice of real life on a working hobby farm.

Farm Vlog – Rainy Day, Rabbit Reveal, and Chicks in the Storm!

Welcome back to Andersen Acres! Today’s farm vlog is short and soggy—because it poured! After weeks of dry weather and wildfire smoke, this rain is a blessing. We’re hopeful it means the end of the wildfire threat in our area. 🌧️

With the downpour keeping us mostly inside, we didn’t tackle many outdoor chores—but we did check on the chicks we recently moved outdoors. A few of them braved the rain, but don’t worry—they found shelter when it got heavy. 🐥

The big surprise today? Meet Smeagol, our newest rabbit! She’s a gorgeous solid blue Rex, named after the Lord of the Rings character. She’s also pregnant, so in just a couple of weeks, we’re hoping to welcome a litter of baby Rex kits! 🐇💙

Thanks to the rain, the garden got a much-needed soak and we got a rare day off from watering. Come hang out with us for a cozy, low-key farm day.

Farm Vlog – Heatwaves, Hatchlings, and Lazy Days on the Homestead

Welcome back to Andersen Acres! Today’s farm vlog is all about embracing the slower pace of a scorching hot day on the hobby farm. With the heat and humidity settling in, we focused on keeping our animals cool, our garden hydrated, and our sanity intact. Even the goats didn’t want to do much—and honestly, we didn’t blame them!

We checked in on the hatcher and were thrilled to see some Silkie chicks and young quail just starting to hatch. We also candled our duck eggs, but unfortunately, they weren’t viable—no surprise since they came from under the barn and were already old. We set the last 5 Silkie eggs in the incubator, marking the end of this round of hatching for us.

Of course, no lazy day is complete without some animal cuddles. Our adorable bunny, curious kitten, and the sweetest Great Pyrenees puppies all got some love and camera time. The puppies are really starting to show off their personalities—and we can’t wait to see who they grow into.

If you love animals, homesteading, and real-life moments on the farm, this one’s for you!

Farm Vlog – Shadowfax Roams Free, Puppy Adventures, and Pizza Night on the Homestead

Welcome back to Andersen Acres! In today’s farm vlog, we’re embracing the chaos of hobby farming life. The fence is down in the horse paddock—but Shadowfax doesn’t care, and honestly, neither do we. This white mini horse has claimed the entire yard as his kingdom, occasionally peeking in the living room window like he owns the place (which, let’s be real, he kind of does).

Even though he technically belongs to my son Tristan, Shadowfax has definitely become my heart horse. While the humidity clings to everything and the rain can’t be bothered to do more than spit, I still had to get out there and water all the plants. Homesteading waits for no weather!

We also got the Great Pyrenees puppies out for some outdoor adventures—slowly introducing them to the wide world they'll one day guard. And, of course, it’s Thursday… so that means it’s pizza night. Because some traditions are sacred.

If you love farm life, animals, and a little slice of homestead reality, this one’s for you!

Farm Vlog – I Lost My Phone and There Were No Eggs Today

Welcome back to Andersen Acres, where today’s farm vlog is a shining example of how real hobby farm life isn’t always exciting. First, I lost my phone. For over 12 hours. That meant no filming, no updates, and a whole lot of frustration. By the time I found it, the day was almost over—and when I finally got outside, there were no eggs to collect. None! Just one of those days.

The rain that was promised never showed up, so instead of getting a break, I was out watering the plants myself. Luckily, the farm had one highlight: kittens! Our barn kittens were racing around and being absolutely adorable, so I spent a few moments just enjoying them. I also took a minute to explain why you shouldn’t re-home kittens before they’re at least six to eight weeks old. It’s important for their health and for the mama cat’s well-being, too.

It might have been a short vlog, but it’s a real one. Sometimes hobby farming is just like this—quiet, unscripted, and full of small moments.

Farm Vlog – Baby Chicks, Fluffy Kittens, and Adorable LGD Puppies!

Welcome back to Andersen Acres! In today’s hobby farm vlog, we’re checking in on some of the cutest little creatures on the homestead—baby chicks, fluffy kittens, and snuggly baby bunnies! Everyone’s doing fantastic, and it’s always such a joy to see how quickly they grow.

Even though I didn’t get any writing done today (oops!), there was still plenty of farm work to do. With no rain in sight, I spent a big part of the day watering all our thirsty garden plants. Dry weather makes things tough, but we’re doing what we can to keep everything green and growing!

We also locked down some chicken eggs and quail eggs in the incubator—fingers crossed we’ll have a successful hatch this weekend. And of course, no day is complete without visiting Tequila’s sweet Great Pyrenees puppies. They’re almost three weeks old now and absolutely thriving. These future livestock guardian dogs are going to be incredible!

If you love animals, homesteading, and all things hobby farming, you’re in the right place.

Farm Vlog – Town Errands, Kitten Goodbyes & Puppy Mayhem

Welcome back to Andersen Acres! Today’s farm vlog takes a little detour—literally—as I actually had to leave the farm (which, let’s be honest, is not my favorite thing). I took my youngest son into town to book some big milestone appointments—one for opening a bank account and another for his written driver’s test. We even stopped for lunch before heading back to the chaos waiting at home.

Back at the farm, it was an emotional goodbye as little Patches, our sweet gray and white kitten, went off to his new forever home. We’re thrilled for him, but as always, it’s a bittersweet moment.

And then… the puppies. Oh, the puppies. I built a fence. I tried to contain them. But eight five-pound pups working together? Yeah, they totally destroyed the barricade and had a full-on puppy party in the house while we were gone. Absolute nonsense—and we love them for it.

This vlog captures the unpredictable beauty (and chaos) of hobby farming life.

Farm Vlog - Baby Bunnies, Wild Puppies, and a Bittersweet Loss

Welcome back to Andersen Acres! Today’s farm vlog is a blend of joy and reflection. We start with our newest arrivals—healthy baby chicks, playful baby bunnies, and adorable baby kittens—all thriving here on the homestead. But not every day on a hobby farm is without sadness. We lost one of our juvenile chickens today. It’s always heartbreaking, but it’s a reality of raising animals. Thankfully, this is our only loss this year, and we honor her today.

Next, we visit Tequila’s Great Pyrenees puppies—energetic, curious, and absolutely beautiful. These little livestock guardian dogs are already testing boundaries, so we had to put up a fence to keep them contained indoors. Farm life with puppies is never dull!

This video is perfect for anyone passionate about hobby farming, raising animals, or living the homesteading lifestyle. Whether you’re here for the cuteness, the real talk about farm losses, or tips on containing chaos, you’ll feel right at home.

Farm Vlog – Predator Trouble, Baby Bunnies, and Hope for New Chicks

Today’s farm vlog takes you through a rollercoaster of real life on a hobby farm. We’re dealing with predator attacks, tiny baby animals, and the hope of saving a beloved bloodline of chickens. My sister’s flock was hit hard by a predator, and she lost her rooster, Charlie. But there’s still hope—we’ve added her fertilized eggs to our incubator in hopes of hatching new chicks and continuing her flock’s legacy.

We also sent her home with some of our extra chicks to help rebuild. On our own farm, our black Rex rabbit, Deli, overgroomed one of her babies and the little one lost an ear. It’s a sad accident, but he’s strong and will live a happy life here. We also take a look at our small family garden to check on the crops growing out back, and give an adorable update on Tequila’s puppies—now two and a half weeks old and absolutely thriving.

Whether you're here for the chickens, rabbits, crops, or baby livestock guardian dogs, today’s vlog is full of real-life farm moments.
