Sebright Chickens

Sebright chickens are a rarer heritage breed. They come in only two colors, gold or silver, and are a true bantam breed because there is no larger version of this tiny bird. They are flighty but beautiful. If the chicks are hand raised, the adults can be friendly and sweet, but this will take effort.

Hens lay a small white egg and do not go broody. They will not hatch their own eggs and make terrible mothers. Because of this, breeders must either hatch in an incubator or under a hen of a different breed, such as a silkie.

Sebrights are generally not recommended for young children. They do well with patient people who understand their unique needs. They do fly, so they should have their wings clipped or be in a covered enclosure to make sure they do not fly the coop, literally.
